New York has retained its leadership among the cities in the world in terms of the number of millionaires.
New York has become the city with the largest number of dollar millionaires – over 384 thousand.
New York has again taken first place among all cities in the world in terms of the number of dollar millionaires. This is stated in the annual report of the consulting company Henley & Partners, prepared jointly with the analytical firm New World Wealth.
There are 384.5 thousand millionaires in New York, over the past 10 years this number has increased by 45%. In particular, 818 people live in the city whose assets exceed 100 million dollars.
The agglomeration around the San Francisco Bay, which includes San Francisco itself and Silicon Valley, took second place. The number of millionaires in the area has almost doubled (by 98%) over the past decade to 342,400.
Only Shenzhen (142%), Hangzhou (108%) and Dubai (102%) have seen higher growth rates. In addition, San Francisco now has more billionaires than New York City, with 82 to 66.
Dubai has shown the best growth among the world’s 50 best cities over the past year, rising 18 places from 21. The city now has 81,200 dollar millionaires. Seoul has seen the steepest decline, falling to 24th place from 19th.
Moscow and London are the only cities to see a decline in the number of millionaires over the past decade. The Russian capital has dropped two places to 40th. The number of millionaires in Moscow was 30 thousand, including 178 people with a fortune of more than $ 100 million and 23 billionaires.
The British capital ranks sixth (215.7 thousand), ahead of Tokyo (292.3 thousand), Singapore (242.4 thousand) and Los Angeles (220.6 thousand). Since 2014, the number of millionaires in London has decreased by 12%, in Moscow – by 25%.
Over the past year, there has been one change in the world’s top fifty cities by the number of millionaires – Lisbon entered the list (22.2 thousand millionaires), and New Zealand’s Auckland left it.
